Beach Wedding Photography – What do i really need to take?
Hello everyone! Hope all is well.
I have a wedding job in Mauritius in October 2009. i wanted to know a few things:
1. What should i be looking for when i arrive there?
2. What lens should i be using for beach weddings?
3. Should i be using any type of filters?
4. What are your views on using SB-900 and Lastolite Ezybox Hotshoe (OFF CAMERA FLASH)?
5. Below is my kitbag. Please advise on what else i might need?
- Nikon D300
- Nikkor 18-200mm VR Lens
- Nikkor 50mm AF-S Lens
- Thinking of buying a FISHEYE lens (Any particular one i should buy?)
- 2 x Nikon SB-900 Flashgun
- Battery pack
- Colour Gel Filters.
Please only professional photographers reply and thank you in advance.
1. Large rocks, breaking surf, landscapes, that can be placed behind subjects for beautiful “out of focus” backgrounds.
2. All portraits should be shot with the zoom lens set to as close to 100mm as possible. NEVER use wide angle lenses if people are in the shot unless they are very small in the frame, or a longer lens than 100mm unless your subjects are far away and you can’t get closer to them.
3. UV is a must. Polarizing filter is excellent for darkening skies and cutting glare off water. Putting “effect” filters on the lens at the time you do the shots could be a mistake. It is better to put in effects “after” you’ve downloaded the shots into your PC.
4. Flash and/or reflectors are “mandatory” for outdoor beach photography. You MUST cut the contrast ratio down.
5. Your lenses and flashes are fine, but NEVER, NEVER use a Fisheye lens for people shots. Long lenses and wide lenses distort facial features and un-glamorize your subjects.
